ガタカ

「ガタカ」は遺伝子に欠陥があるかも知れない普通の「不適格者」が、遺伝子の操作によって作られた完璧な「適格者」に夢と努力で挑むというSF映画ですが、シトロエンDS19カブリオレとローヴァーP6という古い車がなぜか出ていることが、車好きにとっては溜まりません。　しかもローヴァーP6の主査だったスペン・キングはシトロエンDSに大きな影響を受けており、P6はソリハル（ローヴァーの工場のあるところ）製シトロエン、あるいはアグリー・シトロエンと言われたほどなのです。　ちなみにスペン・キングが次に担当したのがレインジローヴァーでした。 (The picture of Citoren DS19 Cabriolet is from Internet Movie Cars Database [IMCDB].)

Gattaca

Citoren DS19 Cabriolet and Rover P6 from a science-fiction movie called "Gattaca".  Spen King, who was in charge of developing Rover P6, was influenced by Citoroen DS a lot and P6 is sometimes called Solihull Citoren or ugly Citroen.  Spen King is also the father of Range Rover. またパンク

週に何回もパンクしています。　直径17インチという特殊なサイズに、日本の道路のために設計されたようなタイヤが付いているので、パンクばかりしている上にタイヤの選択肢がなくて困ります。　当然かも知れませんが、新型のランドクルーザー200系はアフリカの田舎道を走ることなど想定していないということでしょう。 （2009年2月22日　エチオピア　アムハラ州ラリベラ市の近く）

The third flat tire in a week.  These tires are for highway not for off-road.  Since the new Land Cruiser 200 has 17 inch wheels, it is difficult to find off-road tires.  I can conclude that the new Land Cruiser 200 is not designed for African roads. (Near Lalibela, Amahara Region, Ethiopia)

交通手段

この辺りではラクダが主な交通手段です。　モスレムの村ですが、女性が連れて歩いていることも多いです。　ちなみにラクダの価格は3,000ブル（約3万円）くらい。　歩いて数時間掛かるような村だと、100kg（1 quintal）の穀物を運んで60ブル（約600円）くらいになります。（2008年11月14日、エチオピア　アムハラ州コボ県アファフ村）

カニ目

1961年製造のオースチン・ヒーリー・スプライト（Mk.I）。　フロリダのゲインズビルという大学町にあったものを、日本オースチン・ヒーリー・クラブの会長さんが輸入されました。　我が家に来て5年になります。 （注：2009年の7月に惜譲しました。） 見た目はあまりよくありませんが、ちゃんと走ります。　これは手に入れてすぐ、燃料ポンプ不調のために例外的に路上の障害物となってしまったときの写真です。 （2002年5月2日、第三京浜で）

Austｉｎ Healey Sprite (Mk.I) manufactured in 1961.  The Chairman of Austｉｎ Healey Club of Japan imported this car from Gainseville, Florida.   This is a very unusual picture of reliable Frog Eye.   It stopped on a toll road a few months after I purchased this car.  The fuel pump was not working properly. レインジローヴァー

1983年製造のレインジローヴァー。　カーグラフィック誌の小林彰太郎さんのお宅の前で、恐らく20年くらい前に撮られた写真です。　我が家に来て10年になります。 （注：2009年の8月に惜譲しました。） 実は一昨日、残り少なかったガソリンが渋滞でパーコレーションを起こして、首都高の障害物となってしまいました。　何とか首都高を降りてガソリンを満タンにしたら復帰しましたが、ご迷惑をお掛けしたみなさま、ごめんなさい。（1987～1990年頃、東京都目黒区。　出所：カーグラフィック誌）
